I absolutely love seeing my students progress. When concepts sink in, students feel empowered and it's very humbling to see that in action. Even to those that don't think they are coordinated enough to play, think again! You got this!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I typically get an idea of what they already know on drums and their level of experience. If they are brand new to the instrument, I will start off on fundamentals in an age appropriate way, but also aim to get the student playing along to music within a month. If the student has some experience I will have them demonstrate that to me and we will take it from there. If the student has a specific goal in mind, we can make that goal our focus.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing music for over 25 years. I started on piano and took lessons from age 5 until 10. That is when I began playing drums and percussion. I was drum captain at my high school drum line, and played in jazz band in college at UCSC. I studied under a jazz drummer, George Marsh.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching drum lessons when I was in college to my friend's 5 year old kids. I loved working with them, and eventually began pursuing more students.
What types of students have you worked with?
My students have been all ages as young as 5 years old and as old as adults, all with differing levels of experience.
Some of my students were trying out for their school band program/in it. I have had students who already played in their church, but were self taught and needed a few pointers. I have had students who wanted to focus on snare drum and drumline. I have had students that wanted start a band with their friends. I have had students that were simply pursuing a hobby.
In addition, I have had a few students with disabilities including ADHD and Autism, however, I should note I do not have specific training with children with disabilities other than hands on experience.
