Frequently asked questions

All RAPA classes start off with teaching the basic foundational movements of dance.  We have a step-wise curriculum that is age-appropriate and positively challenging.

Bollywood choreographer Karan Riar has more than a decade of experience in the Mumbai Film Industry. His most recent work can be seen in the film, "For Here or to Go?". His work is also well-known throughout the Bay Area and has been showcased on many platforms including National Geographic, SF Giants, NASA Ames Research Center, and at Disneyland. Karan's international work includes IIFA, Filmfare, Star Screen Awards, and various television award shows, and he has choreographed all the major Bollywood Celebs including Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bacchan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, to name a few.
Karan's partner, Meera Riar, is an expert choreographer, performer, and mentor of traditional Classical Kathak Dance. Her experience in the Lucknow Gharana spans over 25 years and 3 continents, and has led her to provide a comprehensive and certifiable Kathak curriculum that encompasses grace, discipline and FUN in all the classes.

RAPA was founded in 2012 by Karan and Meera Riar, who wanted to bring FUN and Indian Dance together into one comprehensive dance training program.  RAPA brings together the best of Bollywood and Classical Indian dance, taught by professionals from the Industry itself.

RAPA teaches and works with students of all ages, from 4 to 99, from all backgrounds and skill levels.

RAPA students have had the opportunity to participate in a flash mob dance scene in the movie "For Here or to Go?", as well as perform at Disneyland, for the San Francisco Giants, at NASA, and many other exciting performance venues.

Most Bollywood Dance Schools teach choreography only, and students are left without proper technique.  Be sure to find a dance school that focuses on technique and skill-building in addition to just choreographing for performance.

We always encourage open dialogue between students, teachers, and parents.  Students should be sure to set aside practice time at home in order to be able to know what questions to bring to the teacher in the next class session.
