Singing Strings
About
Hello
I started playing at age 12
I'm 65, and have been a performing teacher for over 45 years.
I became a luthier at Taylor Guitars here in San Diego in the early 70's.
I play and teach finger style guitar and banjo.
I have taught classes with up to 65 students.
I have CD's and I have played with many artists
I still perform as a solo player and song-writer.
I will set your instrument up to play as well as it allows, and offer this service at a rate 50% below guitar shops.
I love to watch my students reactions when they realize that like nature, playing any instrument involves repetitious patterns that our brain processes and stores for our lifetime.
I don't teach music theory, I teach my students how to play songs, and how to understand the fretboard, and how chords and pick-patterns are all inter-correlated and connected....
My students want to play, and they must be dedicated to learn.
My teaching method requires concentration and practice.
Finger style guitar is so much fun!
The rewards of playing a stringed instrument are immeasurable, and if you are determined to be proficient at learning to play, and if you don't mind keeping your chording-hand nails short, and your picking nails longish, and going through a two week period of callous-growth, success is waiting around the corner, depending on your desire!
I am patient, thorough, and reasonable as a teacher.
I also taught K through 12 school in Tennessee, so all ages are acceptable.
Thank you for your interest
