Stephen Redmon-Byrum Acting Coach
About
Acting is living work. It grows, breathes, evolves. There are many tried and true methods and techniques out there lauded by working actors: Stanislovsky, Meisner, Hagan, Tsuzuki, but there is no one size fits all. My focus is on the idividual. Looking to make you the best actor you can be.
There's nothing quite like watching a students face light up when something just clicks and they take hold of them moment or the sound of their excitement when they see their name in black and white on the cast list. In my 23 years in Theatre, it is truly my favorite thing to see.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start by talking about our goals as an actor. "I want to get hired." "I want to be famous." "I want to do movies." So does everyone else. We want to get down to the base and work our way up. Reading is fundamental. You should be reading new work whenever you can. With new actors, I don't talk as much technique as I do base principals of acting. Intermediate/Advanced students will learn a variety of techniques; Identity, Emotional/Senory Recall, Grounding/Kinesthetics, Spatial awareness, etc, finding the best fit for them as an actor. There is no one size fits all.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree (B.A.) in Performing Arts Studies from Lees-McRae College. In addition I have 23 years experience from the community, academic, and professional theatre world. I am an active performer, director, and playwright.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Due to Current Covid-19 restrictions, all coaching sessions are online only. Indivdual sessions are $30/hr, Group sessions $25/hr/.
How did you get started teaching?
I began coaching in college, mainly with underclassmen who wanted feed back. I've taught at a summer camp and became a mentor at a local community theatre in NC. From there I went on to coach students going into the collegiate and professional circuts.
