AJD Drum Lessons
About
Been in the marching arts activity for over 15 years. I have been an instructor for over 8 year at various levels from beginning all the way up to the independent level/Collegiate level. I've taught students ranging from 8 years old to 23 years old. I am currently teaching at multiple high schools in the Sacramento area.
I really enjoy making music fun and the fact that I get such a cool way to express myself is awesome and helping someone do the same is equally enjoyable. I love seeing the enjoyment/passion my students put into their craft. Watching things click or that ah-ha moment are by far the coolest aspect of teaching for me

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Usually I start off with getting to know the student first, introducing myself, as well as asking a couple of questions to see what their experience level is at. Then I'll go over the technique and how to read music if they need. To help me gauge the students level of experience I start off with Some common exercises as well as some that I e written myself. Then we'll go form there
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started playing music in 4th grade on the alto saxophone and then in middle school it all changed when I went for orientation and saw the Drumline. I started by taking private lessons and went from there, fast fiward to high school I continued taking private lesson but instead for it just being snare lessons, I stared taking percussion lessons so I could learn about the marimba, timpani, drumset and much more. Since then I got my degree in child development and am currently studying to get my teaching credential and masters. During the school year I teach after school at local high school in the Sacramento area teaching marching band and indoor Drumline. I've taught at Lodi high schooland ponderosa high schoolr in the past, currently I am teaching at rosemont high school, Granite bay high school and starting soon I'll be teaching at west park high school. As well as teaching at the high school level I taught at the collegiate level teaching at Sacramento state university.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Typically I stick to $25-40 an hour depending on if they are online or in person. I'm pretty flexible
How did you get started teaching?
I was always interested in teach but while studying for my undergrad at sac state I was trying to find a way to pay for me to be able to march an independent Drumline. As asked around to some friends if they knew of schools who were look to hire a drum instructor as well as offering private lessons. I git a call from a friend asking if I wanted to teach at his high school and I've been doing the high school gig ever since as well as keeping up with the students I was giving private lessons to.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with every age group howeve I mainly deal with high school level students (14-19) due to the schools that I have taught at and currently teach at
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
First Ask questions constantly before you hire them and even during the lessons. They are there for you to help you grow in the area that you want. Secondly make sure they aren't just in it for the money, make sure they are just as excited about teaching as you are learning
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Nothing really if you have a question ask away.
