About

Ages 10 and up (some exceptions apply)

The first step to learning to play drums is finding a great teacher. My name is Scott Willson and I am a full time professional drummer and classical percussionist with over 15 years of private teaching experience working with both kids and adults. I have a Bachelor's Degree in music and own and operate my own music teaching studio specializing in drums, concert percussion, and timpani located in Elk Grove.

The next step is finding a set of drums to play on. The Elk Grove Drummers' Studio rents 4-piece drum sets to current students for $30 monthly. That's about $1 per day! I recommend renting a set of drums for the first 90 days to try it out. Then I will help you find either a new or used instrument to purchase at prices much lower than retail, typically $350-$450 dollars.

The last step is all about practice. I work one-on-one with students at each lesson, demonstrating the lessons, working with the student to understand each step, then assigning homework that progressively gets more difficult over time. And here's where studying with a working professional pays off -- my students get special access, including backstage passes, to many of my local performances. Can you imagine the excitement and pride a student feels as they watch their teacher live on stage? This is what I call motivation!

Typically, after 12-24 months most students are ready to join their local school, community, or church band. And students that really excel will have the opportunity to audition and join the Sacramento Youth Symphony and travel during their summer breaks to perform. Can you imagine the pride you will feel traveling to Disneyland, Disney World, or even Europe to perform?
