Shakespeare Demystified
About
Shakespeare's plays were menat to be seen not read. They are scripts. Most of us have spent a glassy eyed english class deconstructing the Bard's verse. We explore the plays based on the motivations of characters. for 20 years I was the aArtistic Director of a theatre comapny that produced at least 2 of Shakespeare's plays each year. I created and directed an acting conservatory for students age 10-17 that focused on Shakespeare using this character approach. This class is not only for actors interested in broadening their skills. Studying the motivations of Shakespeare's characters can open our minds to the commonality of our experiences as human beings and lead to a better understanding of our interpersonal communidcation.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with a discussion of what you want to accomplish then select a monologue for you to learn. We would break down what is happening in the scene and how to work with the verse. Then character development. As you advance we would add another student to the mix and begin exploring the interaction of characters and their motivations.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over the last 30 years. I have performed in over thirty of Shakespeare's plays and directed nearly as many. I created and directed an acting conservatory for students age 10-17 focusing on Shakespeare's works.
