Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.
How much are dance classes?
Kids group dance lessons cost $60 to $200 per month, or $40 per week on average. Private dance lessons for adults cost $50 to $85 per hour, depending on the location, dance type, number of lessons, and session length.
Most dance classes are casual and focus more on comfort and form than style. What you wear to a dance class depends on the dance type:
Ballet and jazz require form-fitting clothes so your form and posture is visible.
Wear loose, comfortable clothes and shoes to contemporary or street classes.
Wear fitness or leisure clothes and tap shoes to tap dance lessons.
Wear casual clothes, smooth-soled shoes, or dresses to ballroom, tango, or salsa classes.
Are private dance lessons worth it?
Private dance lessons are an excellent way to gain new skills in a low-stakes environment, but they may not be for everybody. Private lessons are worth it if you:
Value privacy
Want to make progress quickly
Feel more comfortable one-on-one instead of in groups
Want direct feedback on technique
Need a class that conforms to your schedule
How long are dance classes?
Most dance classes last 30 to 90 minutes and meet 1 to 5 times per week, depending on the dance type and age range. Dance classes for children tend to meet more often for shorter sessions because children tend to benefit more from frequent, consistent lessons. Casual adult lessons tend to meet fewer times per week but are usually longer.

Can you give me an estimate in writing?
Do you teach private lessons or group lessons only?
What dances do you specialize in?
What ages are you used to teaching?
Are your lessons entry-level or intermediate?

I watched Keith perform about 7-8 songs in midtown Sacramento about 3 weeks ago. His love of music translates to his unique sound. He was respectful of the venue and unlike other artists, he humbly engages he crowd. Keith invites everyone into his musical journey. He is a delight to watch in person. I would recommend him to anyone looking to pick up a musical skill, especially piano!

My children have been attending dance class at Jacque's Dance Expressions for many years. The studio is always a welcoming environment with caring and knowledgeable teachers that help help them feel like it's a second home. All three of my children are always so very excited to go to dance. It has been so rewarding and I would encourage anyone with even the slightest intrest in dance to check out Jacque's Dance Expressions.

Nearly everything (aside from having an amazing ear for recognizing that “one wrong note,” wrongly played in a musical score - which is his job), Harley is a find. He is easy, fun, philosophic, and passionate about finding a way for musical talent to be brought out into more light He gets that many students sell themselves short and has a way to have uncertainty or timidness turn into a confident smile. Acceptance of the student, right where he (or she) is, begets more acceptance, more playing confidence, and less self-consciousness. He believes in his students, however they are put together. He is so good at bringing students together, to believe in themselves, that I’ve long felt he should franchise his knack for teaching. Harley has been my instructor for nearly 18 years. I stick with him because I’m getting better. I stick with him because he has heart, because he celebrates life and music, because he is genuinely like a father, a brother, a teacher, a preacher, historian, philosopher, and most of all - a friend.
