About

Hula Halau ‘O Makalapua, Marama Te Mafatu Nui offers people of all descents the opportunity to develop poise and confidence through dance, as well as the continuity of one’s cultural heritage through the instruction of music, arts, and crafts of the islands. Students learn confidence, self-expression, to dance in unity with others, stage presence, proper execution of their dance, and language.

I believe that if I can teach our Students the “Aloha Spirit” of strong family values, spiritual guidance and nurture their growth, then we have contributed to their tomorrows... a future bright with promise.

A fun environment to learn to play the ukulele as well as to appreciate Polynesian music and culture. I started as a complete beginner and learned basic chords and strums and songs over 6 months, then moved up to the intermediate class where the pace is faster and the music is more complex. Class sizes are small so our wonderful teacher can give students individual feedback and keep the classes fun and interesting.

Friendly, non-stressful instruction from instructor. A nice family atmosphere for all things Hawaiian: ukulele, music, and hula dance.

Auntie Des is awesome! So much talent and patience. This place is truly like a second home and you can feel the “Aloha” as soon as you walk in and see the big welcoming smile from Auntie Des. I’ve learned a bunch of great ukulele strums, fun hulas, ipu patterns and have experienced the joy of performing in so many venues. Auntie Des has a way of having fun while you’re learning. I’ve been here for over 5 years and I’m looking forward excitedly to the next 5 years.
