Emily's Tutoring Service
About
I have two years of experience curating and teaching piano curriculum to young learners. I also had the pleasure of founding the first kids' book club at the Clairemont Library and was often called upon by friends and family to help with homework and essays. The humanities are my specialty, but I am willing and able to tutor in any subject grades K-12. I am punctual, passionate, and industrious, and I look forward to cultivating value in your program.

I enjoy watching the trajectory of student learning. It is absolutely thrilling to chart someone's progress through a course as they build upon the skills you have taught them and develop their own creative ideas about the material. For instance, a couple of years ago one of my piano students started writing her own songs!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with new students, I first get to know their learning style in order to find the best and most efficient format for their learning. Some kids are visual learners; others prefer auditory explanations. Then I plan each session to maximize their understanding, retention, and enjoyment of the material.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an undergraduate student of Cornell University and have recent experience with AP exams (including Literature, Language & Composition, U.S. History, Art History, World History, Economics Physics, and Chemistry), as well as introductory college coursework in Spanish, Literature, Economics, and Statistics.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching piano three years ago. Since then, I have decided to expand my repertoire and begin tutoring in the humanities subjects.
