About

My class is for anyone who wants to be, or is already, a storyteller, a comedian or both. What I teach is pretty specific yet out of the box. If you answer YES to any part of the question below please send me a request.

Are you someone who: wants to perform at a storytelling night, or develop a full length one person show, or a nail a stand up set at an open mic or who wants more confidence-building skills for public speaking? Contact me if this fits what you are looking for. Since 2013 I've taught, beginners & up, how to create and perform engaging stories that make audiences either laugh, cry or both. I bring my 30 years of experience as a nationally touring writer/performer in theater and comedy clubs. I'm now offering individual coaching and consultation hour and half-hour sessions online at a greatly reduced introductory rate. Pay as you go. Check out my national reviews and see excerpts of my work at www.margagomez.com

I love brainstorming and bouncing ideas to craft a compelling story that has never been told onstage before, or polishing a story already in development. In my one-person shows, I play myself and other characters mom, dad, my exes and more. I have helped students do the same if they wished. Of course, some stories are best underplayed. Anything is possible. I'm now offering individual coaching and consultation hour and half-hour sessions online at a greatly reduced introductory rate. Pay as you go. Frequently asked questions

We discuss the project or the student reads me the work so far. I ask questions about intent and structure. I make observations about the sound and energy of their performance. I give notes to add something or to edit and suggest performance adjustments. If the student has questions about any aspect of performing or writing I answer them.

I have been a paid professional in this field for 30 years. I studied theater in college but I have really learned by doing it. I continue to learn by attending conferences, collaborating with peers, attending performance, experimenting, reading and maintaining a writing practice.

My standard pricing system is discounted for a limited time at  $50 per hour of online coaching (a savings of $30)  Shorter sessions are also available $25 for 30 minutes of online coaching.

Touring around the country some theaters and schools have invited me to do residencies that include my performance and a performance workshop for the community or students. I found I really enjoyed it and in 2013 I was selected to be an artist in residence at Brava Theater in San Francisco where I have taught many rewarding group classes.

Please note my workshops are now available online only. I have worked with everyone from young adults to senior citizens. I have an interest in getting underrepresented stories to the stage. I work best with thoughtful progressive students respectful of others.

I premiered my 12th solo show "Latin Standards"  at The Public Theater, Off Broadway in January 2017 and got Critic's Pick in The New York Times.

Book a half hour session - pick my brain and we'll take it from there.

This class is geared only for students who write and want to perform what they write as solo theater, storytelling, or stand up comedy. It is ideal for busy people who prefer one to one focused coaching online.
