Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It depends upon their needs. I like to get to know them, what they want as a student. I like to practice vocal and physical warm ups (the 2 instruments we use as actors, voice and body).
For children, I like to use theatrical/improv games to begin to make them feel comfotable and so they feel that theater is FUN!
For adults I also like to begin with vocal and physical warups and ice breakers. From there I will help them work on whatever their project is at the moment, whether it is an audition monologue, a scene, or a musical theater piece (I do not play an instrument or give technical vocal technique, my specialty is perfecting the emotion and staging of a piece). If they are unsure they what to work on I can bring in material for them to choose from.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

What does that entail?
After working at two San Francisco based children's theater companies, The Rabbit Hole and New Conservatory Theater, I realized it is really never too young to introduce the art of storytelling through interactive play, improvisation, crafting and song. While working at these locations I also taught classes off-site at German International School or Silicon Valley, La Scuola Elementary School and Sunset Elementary School in San Francisco. The class usually 1 hr- 1.5 hrs with classes sizes of about 10, would occur weekly and last for a number of weeks, usually 8-12.
The structure of the course can vary depending on the age range of the students and what works best to each individual school, but basically I bring in activities/educational games focused on the art of theater and over the course the kids learn creative games, learn aspects of theater such as tableau/ pantomime, character building, setting/environment, music, improvisation an most importantly teamwork.
The goal is not an ending performance (although of there is something they are working on like an audition of a school play I am more than happy to help coach). My goal is for the students to flourish in a fun, supportive and non-competitive atmosphere where each student is provided an opportunity to shine.
