From: Nancy Lam To: [email protected] Hi Coach Mike! Before I forget, I wanted to send you an email to thank you for the lessons that we have learned in class in Level 1. Between Week 1 and Week 4, I booked four paying jobs, and had one successful game show audition! I really think that success in this industry rides on momentum and the push I got from your classes propelled me forward to submit myself for more jobs, bring positive energy in with me to auditions, and smile through every job. I booked a commercial for Brightcove Videocloud, a print job for Sony, a Short Film and a music video for a new EMI records artist Too Young to Love. I also got a bit of camera time and spending money as an extra sitting next to Jane Lynch on Glee, and got a few seconds on the gameshow Let's Make a Deal. One particular experience that I want to share is from the EMI records audition. It was an improvisational dance audition and I didn't expect to be explicitly using any particular techniques from our class. However, I did remember our classes on audition technique, and waiting room behavior, so I showed up early and ready to be friendly. I ended up arriving early enough to be the first one there and was able to have a more extended conversation with the audition monitor. I started chatting with her about our hometowns, our Los Angeles experiences, etc. It turned out that she was actually the co-producer on the project and over my dance technique, booked me because she liked our conversation and thought I was a cool person! Even better, after the shoot this past Saturday, she told me that she had been offered a directing spot on another project and wants to work with me again! Thank you for your help and positive encouragement. These have been small accomplishments so far, but I know that if I stay focused and barrel ahead, I will see success in the future. I am finishing up my agent submission packages and am hoping to have them ready to be sent out tomorrow! See you in class on Thursday! Best, Nancy Lam

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We love to start with an absolutely free audit first so actors can get a feel for our teaching and coaching style.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

As an Actor myself I've booked over 100 National Commercials and love teaching other actors how to be successful.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I have a payment plan. No 1 time lump sum payment. Actors can pay as they take each class each week.

How did you get started teaching?

A suggestion from Actors that kept asking me how I became so successful at TV Commercials.

What types of students have you worked with?

All types. 10 years old to 65.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Ted X Events. I also just finished a book and will be doing a Ted Talk of my own soon!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Ask for a free audit and have your questions ready to ask before the event is over.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

How to actually become a working actor and not a "professional student."
