About this pro

Sydney Actors Collective (SAC) is a non beginner acting school that trains actors to take their craft to the next level. SAC is proud to offer a SAFE and NON JUDGEMENTAL environment for students to discover and play.

SAC is an acting school from Australia that has opened it's doors in LA. Australian and British actors are really successful in LA at the moment. At SAC you will learn the "Aussie way", and hopefully let a little bit of the Aussie success rub off!

Acting is about performing with a sense of fearlessness. Failure is not a bad word! While all attempts are made to help you get a deeper connection to the work, onus and importance is placed on being able to take risks and even fail. You will learn just as much from things that don’t work as those that do. The concept of living outside of your comfort zone is a mantra at SAC, as this is where magic and acting excellence happens!

So being apart of SAC has been a tremendous unique experience for me. I've never had a class approached in such an authentic way. Very real, very grounding, and very spiritual. We start from within. As deep as we can go, and we slowly bring out the character through our emotions, through our feelings through our senses. We get into our body instead of our mind to find what it is we're looking for. We get to know ourselves a little better through out the process, which is beautiful to me. The way everything is approached can be very therapeutic in this space. I always end up leaving feeling more connected to myself. The space in which we play of course has to be comfortable in order to have an experience like that. My class with Chum, is always very comfortable. The space is open and safe for us to explore ourselves, each other, and our work. We're all there for the same reason so we learn to trust and be comfortable with each other, thus, creating an intimate environment. And that gives me the opportunity to release and let go of everything there is to let go and give my everything to my craft. This is a place where I can really take risks, play around and most importantly, have fun with myself and everyone else there. We all let go, we all release, we all just flow and enjoy what we do. We take a deep breath, and we all just "jump." I'm very grateful for this space. Thank you, Chum. x

I am so fortunate to be a part of Sydney Actors Collective! I get to work with talented actors, while being in a safe environment where I’m constantly learning and being challenged. What makes all the difference is that the coaches are working actors- I trust that they know what I am going through and can guide me to take my acting to the next level. I couldn’t be happier with SAC!

Classes at SAC are among the best acting classes I’ve ever taken! Chum encourages his students to step out of their comfort zones and into scenes that challenge them and force them to become better actors. SAC creates a learning environment where I feel like I can put everything into a scene and take risks without feeling judged for the choices I make. As someone who always struggled finding the big emotions in scenes, SAC has provided me with tools to approach emotional scenes that no other acting school has taught me. I can honestly say that my acting has improved substantially through my classes with Chum and I’d highly recommend them!

I have been training with Chum for the last two years as that's when I decided to become an Actress. I live in LA and the competition for jobs is fierce. Chum's coaching has taken me from a complete beginner, to call backs to booking many commercials and now recently landing a series regular role. Chum you are amazing and I am so glad that I had you from the start to build my acting foundations. I promise - you'll be the first name I read out to thank when I collect my first Oscar.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We like to work WITH the student. To help them find their unique acting voice and not just become like every other actor. Actors that are great and let their individuality come through their work are always more interesting to professionals looking for actors.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

SAC is one of Australia's top boutique acting schools. Past and present students have worked on top network TV shows, international films and main stage theatre shows both in Australia and now Hollywood.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

The price is based on a 3 hour class. Each class is $60.

How did you get started teaching?

All SAC teachers are working actors. We use working actors as our teachers. Actors who are constantly learning from sets and can offer their wisdom and experience to new actors. If you want to be an actor...learn from successful actors.

What types of students have you worked with?

We work with non beginner acting students. So to get accepted you must:

Have an agent OR have a demoreel/imdb page OR have some previous acting training OR have a bio showing past work.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

SAC loves encouraging our students to film footage for themselves. We also encourage them to join theatre projects and submit their work online and to festivals.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Use teachers that are working actors. These actors are on sets, at auditions and know the journey you are on. They are ever evovling and not stuck on some course structure for years.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

All actors should have some idea of what they would like to work on. What their current block or obstacle is. Also ask questions of the teacher to work out if they suit what you want.
