Seeing the results of my student's hard work. Watching them grow confident in their ability to take the stage or play comfortably, freely and fluidly! :)

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Students will be taught the basics of drumming depending on the current skill level. Starting with understanding every part of the instrument and working on specific techniques for both hands and feet for accurate and precise playing.
exercises will be given for increasing speed, indurence, accuracy and fluidity
Students will learn to understand and play different genres of music at different speeds and intensities starting with learning drum parts to their favorite songs to then improvising and learning beats and fills applicable to different and all genres of music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've trained for 5 years under Christian Pepin, a Grammy winning musician and instructor in San Francisco.
participated in a Berkelee College of Music Extension Course in drum instruction and teaching techniques.
Did some extensive studies in genres like Afro rythmic and Latin music, reggae, bossa nova, rock and many more.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Prices for students coming to my studio start at $50/hour and $35 for a half hour lesson. I also give access to my studio and a practice kit for students who need an appropriate and treated space to practice and/or record for $20/hour.
$65 for in home/student studio lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students who are just beginning to learn the instrument and need all the proper techniques tips and direct pointers to avoid all the pitfalls I went through in my early days as a kid
I also teach intermediate students who know their way around the instrument but are looking for a more masterful aproach to playing and expanding their skill sets and genres. Giving them specific excercises to move their drumming to the next level
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Pick one you like, and get along with. trust their feedback because they're only looking out for your best interest.
also you can spend thousands of dollars on lessons but if you're not putting the time in on your own to practice you're only wasting your money and the valuable time the instructor invests in you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What am I learning the instrument for?
what specific genres do I want to play and learn?
How much time can I devote to practicing?
am I looking to eventually play in front of people?
