About

I am currently a retired public school drama teacher with 28 years of teaching experience, and a Masters degree in Theatre Education. I have worked with students to create characters for scene study, improv work, full length plays and Shakespeare performances.

I have also worked with adults looking to move into the world of public speaking, as well as those who wanted to improve their comfort level with speaking in a social forum.

I love being in the room when one of my students overcomes a challenge and realizes what s/he has to share. It's magic every time.

Watching the faces of my students when they realize that it's not as scary as they thought to get up and show off how spectalar they are. A little practice, a few pointers and they are on their way.

Nancy was absolutely wonderful helping get my shy teenage daughter get ready to give a speech. She was so friendly and encouraging! My daughters confidence grew immensely in a short time and Nancy gave her feedback that she could immediately and in the future. We are so happy we found Nancy on lessons.com and highly recommend her!

I always had the freedom to make mistakes and take the lead and Mrs. Nyhus was always there to support me. She is full of ideas and knowledge that are hard to find anywhere else. Im a better actor and person just by having her influence in my life.

    Frequently asked questions

A meeting of the minds is a good place to start. I have a survey for my clients to fill out so that we know where we are starting, and what we are trying to achieve. Then we will select material and, based on the student's needs, focus on script analysis, character analysis and performance.

I have a Masters Degree in Theatre Education and 19 years experience teaching drama.
I charge $50 an hour for private lessons. I wouldn't turn down a group of friends who want to work together!
I have worked with people of all ages. I've taught elementary school and middle school drama, but have worked with high schoolers and adults as well.
Find someone you connect with and feel comfortable with. If you don't click with the teacher, it's hard to take the risk of developing character and presenting. Lessons should always be about you gaining confidence, and it's the teacher's job to guide you to having pride in your abilities.
Do you have a specific goal for the lessons (an audition, college, career)? What experience do you have coming in? What do you love about acting? What scares you about acting?
