Alchemy Of Movement
About
We have a physical location, a beautiful dance studio in central Boulder and offer a variety of weekly adult dance fitness classes. Our instructors can also offer a variety of other styles. The owner, Ashley, specializes in Latin partner dances, ladies styling, and lead etiquitte (specifically for Salsa & Bachata) and dances on a Bollywood/Bhangra performance team. Other instructors offer a wide range of styles as well!

Alchemy of Movement is a place where you can be free to move in the way that is best suited for you. We are owned by a woman, Ashley Patchen, who didn't start dance training until much later in life... typically the age when people say you've started too late and won't be able to make it as a dancer anymore. We want to provide a place for adults to dance who can say "screw that!" to anyone who tells them they cant.
It's a place where you can be happier and healthier, where fitness is fun, and a place where you can make life long connections with people.
This is what we love about what we do.

How did you get started teaching?
This is a difficult question to answer because we have many instructors with all sorts of backgrounds. Some have been training for years, others have a passion and a vibe that exudes warmth and inspiration. Everyone has their own story, we will do our best to match you with someone that fits what you're looking for!
What types of students have you worked with?
Honestly we love to work with anyone who is willing to put time in. You don't have to be perfect, you don't have to have a lot of training, but you do need to put your best foot forward, have a good attitude, and genuinely want to learn and grow.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Our dance teams recently performed at a fundraiser in Boulder. It was so inspiring to see how much joy it brought our dancers, how it made them feel sexy and strong and empowered to work on something hard and present it at a large event. Our community is one where people feel welcome and accepted no matter their experience. It was wonderful to watch that happen at this particular event.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't necessarily go with the flashiest instructor. There are a lot of people who sell themselves as instructors because they can do all sorts of fancy tricks and can teach you the same. But they will never focus on the foundations, isolations, movement, feeling the music, musicality, strengthening and other skills that help make you a better dancer.
