DancingMara
About
I promote a fun and friendly class atmosphere, where ladies and girls can be comfortable getting exercise in an noncompetitive, supportive, and empowering environment.
I have been teaching belly dance since 2004 and more information can be found on my website: www.dancingmara.com
Safety is my top priority and I observe the students and tailor each class to the students’ abilities to prevent injuries or fatigue. Belly dance is a terrific low-impact exercise that can be done by women of all ages and sizes and I have taught students from ages 5 to 72. I carefully explain and demonstrate each movement to encourage proper technique and maximize health benefits.
I love sharing this dance with others. It has helped improve my physical and mental well-being and I want others to experience it.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Find out what they are interested in learning and work with them to acquire the dance skills through demonstration and practice. Before we begin, I always go through a warm-up and stretch.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Many years of lessons with Cyrianna, Medea, Fahtiem, Aleia, Angelika Nemeth, and my favorite instructor and dancer, the Belly Dance Superstar Ansuya. I hold an “Ansuya Belly Dance” Certificate and have taken hundreds of workshops with famous belly dance instructors (see my website for more information).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Private lessons are based on the distance I have to travel and the number of students. Lessons are usually 1 to 1.5 hours long.
How did you get started teaching?
I was encouraged to begin teaching in 2004 by my fellow dancers and instructors.
What types of students have you worked with?
Ages 5 to 72 years old. Belly dance is a terrific low impact exercise that can be done by all ages, sizes, and physical ability levels. I prefer to teach belly dance to females, but I have taught male students also.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Dancing in "Mysterious Ways" with the U2 tribute bands U2JT and the Walk On Symphony. My favorite performance was with the Buffalo Symphony in Buffalo NY.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you let the teacher know any limitations you may have, so that you may have a safe and healthy workout.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Decide what you are interested in learning.
