About this pro

I offer a free 1/2 hour introductory lesson to ensure that I'm a good match for you.

I have been teaching drums for over 14 years.  I strive to provide a relaxed, fun style of teaching that embraces  musicality and encourages individual expression, while focusing on drumming fundamentals.

I specialize in teaching beginning and intermediate drummers; helping them to develop the skills and musical vocabulary needed to play music in school band programs, jam with family and friends, or just have some fun playing along to their favorite songs.

Creating music in the moment with another musician can be the most valuable part of studying any instrument, and I set aside some time in each lesson to play some music together!

(I travel with a guitar and amplifier to all lessons outside of my studio.)

This teaching strategy encourages students to become more engaged in their lessons, and allows them to aquire the experience and confidence they will need to play music with other musicians...and it's pretty fun!

I can cover a wide range of styles including Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Grunge, and Latin music, on both drums and guitar...and I'm a huge Beatles fan.

I'm passionate about helping students reach their goals, and I enjoy creating an open, positive, and creative learning environment.

My goal as a teacher, is to provide an experience that encourages students to enjoy learning, playing, and creating music for a lifetime.

I've always enjoyed teaching, it's just as rewarding as playing music for me. I am always excited for the opportunity to guide students on their own musical journey,  helping them through challenges, and sharing in their success.  I have students that have been with me for over 7 years!

Paul has become a part of the family. We have been together for three+ years now. Our 10 year old son loves his lessons and all but handles his own scheduling with Paul. I highly recommend him and can't wait to see him in real life again soon.

My son has had the privilege of being Paul’s student for the last six years. I cannot express how fortunate we are to have Paul in our lives. Paul not only is an extremely gifted musician but is a caring, empathetic, passionate, effective mentor for my son. Paul has a very unique way of combining fundamental technique education with music of interest to my son, which has included The Beatles, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more. In addition, Paul travels to my house for lessons and if you have a nutty schedule like we do, this is such an amazing perk – not only do we not have to leave home, but my son is able to learn on his own set. Paul has also managed to schedule annual jams where my son can showcase his skills alongside some of the most talented musicians in the Denver area. I can also attribute my son’s success with high school marching/concert/jazz band to his tutelage from Paul – he has taken so much extra time to ensure my son is confident and prepared. Paul has become an integral part of my son’s musical world and we are so lucky to have him.

Paul has been teaching drums to my son for about 2.5 years. My son was very young when he started (only 7), and Paul met him where he was. He doesn't overwhelm him with technicality but still pushes him to learn the craft the right way. He keeps the lessons fun, and even when he has to push my son to work harder, he does so with kindness and encouragement. I'd recommend Paul to anyone looking for drum lessons, for themselves or their kids.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I offer all new students a free introductory lesson. This helps us to ensure that we're a good match.

Lessons are tailored to what the student wants to learn, while introducing drumming fundamentals, note reading, and musical concepts. We will start playing a song in your first lesson.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been a drummer for 30 years, playing and exploring all kinds of music from the Beatles, to Jazz, Afro Cuban styes to Funk, Blues, Grunge and Rock music. I have studied in Los Angeles with notable players such as Peter Erskine, Tony Braunagle, and Dave Garibaldi. My live playing experience has taken me from dive bars to The El Rey Theater in LA, Dazzle Jazz and the Bluebird Theater in Denver, to The Bowery Ballroom in New York.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I can teach at my studio in the Cherry Creek area or provide in home lessons. In home lessons are generally $5 to $15 more per lesson, depending on time and location.

Please get in touch for more pricing, and availability for lessons!
