About this pro

I have over fifteen years of performance experience with orchestral percussion, hand percussion, and drum set, including master classes at Berklee College of Music taught by such legends as Mike Mangini, John Blackwell, and Richard Flanagan. I have performed in university drumlines, orchestras, electronic music acts, and nationally-touring rock bands, and I can provide guidance with nearly every genre-- from school concert bands to rock, jazz, hip-hop, funk, blues, latin, metal, and everything in between.

As a member of the Percussive Arts Society, I have access to a wide range of publications and multimedia libraries that I am happy to share with you. My lessons are tailored to your goals and may include exercises involving rudiments, sight-reading, soloing, improvisation, studio preparation, and communication techniques used for performing with other musicians.

All lessons include a personal portfolio of sheet music and audio to help you succeed!

Although it takes a lot of consistent practice and work to be an exceptional musician, the most rewarding part for me is focusing on how to keep the joy and passion alive throughout the journey. There's nothing that makes me happier than seeing my students progress with their goals, feel more confident in their playing, AND have fun all at the same time!

I know how frustrating it can be to feel stuck or not know where to go next, and I am committed to showing you how to push through whatever setbacks and resistance you're facing whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player. Your breakthrough is my breakthrough!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I assess their current skill level, desires, and needs and develop a custom curriculum just for them. This may include the use of rudiments, technique adjustment, sight-reading, play-alongs, etc.

I also have experience teaching students with special needs and learning disabilities, and I will provide a lesson plan that helps them succeed as well.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Five years experience teaching private & group lessons in Northern Colorado and the Denver Metro area.

What types of students have you worked with?

I've taught all skill levels aged 5 to 67 but the majority of my students are in middle or high school. As previously mentioned, I also have given lessons to learning-disabled students and students with special needs.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Before COVID-19 hit, I got the chance to watch one of my students play his fourth grade recital and he had a smile on his face the entire time; I could tell he was having a blast! Moments like that make me happy to do what I do.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Look for someone who rewards progress, not perfection. You don't need to know exactly what you want to learn on drums, but if you can tell your teacher ANYTHING you do want to learn, that will help us make it fun for you!
