About

I have been teaching for 42 years, in my home studio, at Central Connecticut State University for 20 years, and at Westminster School in Simsbury, CT for 40 years . I was also the Artistic Director for the Ensign-Darling Vocal Fellowship at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford until COVID struck. I studied for 8 years with Phyllis Bryn-Julson and sang Beethoven's Missa solemnis with Robert Shaw in France. It is my goal to free up the natural voice and protect the larynx from misuse.

Frequently asked questions

I start with an explanation of the actual mechanism and muscles involved in singing. As I explain I add exercises to work on positioning the muscles correctly and breathing techniques to support these postions.

I have a Bachelor of Music, summa cum laude from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, 8 years of study post-graduation with Phyllis Bryn-Julson, a cerficate from the Fontainebleau School of Music in France, and I have coached with Warren Jones and Thomas Grubb. I have had a career that enabled me to be hired to teach at a College with only a Bachelor Degree.

I charge $75.00 per hour and I only teach hour-long lessons.
After College and while waitressing for 5 years, I started teaching piano and voice and discovered I liked to teach. I no longer teach piano lessons, but my expertise is really in singing.
I have worked with students who want to sing with less tension and expand their ranges in both Classical or Musical Theater genre. I have also worked with students who sing in bands and/or jazz clubs.
I just learned that all three of my students who auditioned for the Honors recital at Central Connecticut State University got in.
Look for a teacher who wants to teach you how it should feel rather than how it should sound. Creating sounds often involves muscles. You want to free your voice of muscles.
