A great instructor is able to tailor lessons based on the needs and goals of each student. Ben is that kind of great instructor! If youre just starting out and need the basics, Ben can help you develop a solid foundation of skills. If youre an experienced jazz drummer, Ben can help you get to the next level. And he can provide instruction for everything in between.
I liked working with Ben because he has the experience to know what works, is supportive when you make mistakes, and encourages you to try things that seem impossible at first. He makes learning both fun and challenging.

Ben is a great drum teacher. He helped to improve my jazz drumming a lot. He has a straight forward approach and is very knowledgeable about many styles of drumming, from rock to Afro Cuban and Brazilian rhythms. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, I highly recommend taking lessons with Ben.

Ben is an expert. He has played in the bands of some of the great musicians of our time, and he knows the music forwards and backwards. Every time I ask a question I am met with thoughtful analysis followed by countless recommendations of music to check out. He is a very practical teacher of music, leading students directly to great music to show them the source of how to play & listen. Furthermore, he is hilarious in a really natural way that makes lessons both educational and enjoyable. I highly recommend taking lessons with him!

I started with Ben with little to no knowledge of jazz percussion and technique. Now, after working with him for two years, I am leaving to go into college for music and a large part of that is due to Ben! His teaching methods and style create a helpful and efficient environment to learn in. He is always super happy and positive during our lessons. I would recommend him for any level of drummer! 10/10!

    Frequently asked questions

The first step is get to know each student and get a feel for his or her personality. After that, I usually evalute the student's skills in a very easy going, no pressure way. Each student has strenghts and weaknesses. It is my job help turn a student's weaknesses into strengths.

I have a Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School of Music (Jazz Studies 1999). I have extensive performing, recording, touring and teaching experience. I have taught beginning to advanced students, privately and at institutions such as the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts and the Hartt School of Music.

Lessons are $60/hr with the option of 30 or 45 minute lessons.

Lessons at the student's home will be priced on a case by case basis. Please enquire about rates.

I have worked with begginers through advanced students. Some of my students have gone on to top music schools and have careers as professional musicians themselves.

Hire a teacher with as much professional experience as possible.
