I am a compassionate, patient, student-growth oriented percussion teacher with twenty-five years’ experience, passionate about developing young-to-experienced percussionists and drummers in expression, technique, and music literacy by means of authentic encouragement and cross-disciplinary applications. Over a couple decades of intentionally developing my teaching craft, I am able to consistently strike a balance between high standards and empowering encouragement, adept at differentiated instruction, gradual release of responsibility, positive reinforcement, fluid correction, and building relationships.
I teach drum set (rock, pop, jazz, funk, and much more), snare drum, keyboard percussion (marimba, bells, and the rest), and marching percussion.

Jeff is amazing! He is caring, patient, dedicated and knows how to communicate & instruct at my level (very much a beginner). Right out of the gate, he took the time to understand my goals and set a plan to get there. He is also one to go above and beyond the call of duty; he came to the house to set up and tune my drum kit to make sure Im practicing on an optimal set. Our in person lessons are fun and go by super-fast. Hes upbeat, encouraging and in only a couple weeks Im seeing progress in my playing. You will not go wrong by letting Jeff instruct you, your kids or any age person on the joy of percussion instruments for any musical genre! Its clear that he loves what he does and wants everyone to enjoy it just as much.

If you desire to elevate your drumming with an intelligent, supportive and professional musician, your search should end right here. Jeff has a very focused, tailored and surgical approach, making great use of your time based on where YOU are in your musical journey. I find Jeffs student needs based approach to be a level beyond what I have experienced with several other instructors. Lessons are about my specific needs and Jeff works hard to creatively find ways to instruct and address my weaknesses. Jeff is very humble about his intellect and ability, and consistently motivates and pushes you toward the growth you desire. If you chose to work with Jeff you are in for a treat. He is a great mentor and partner.

During my time at the University of Bridgeport, Jeff Jones was instrumental in my growth as a musician. When I arrived, I had very little experience with mallets, but under Jeff’s patient guidance and expert teaching, I became a confident and proficient marimba player. He not only introduced me to four-mallet technique but also guided me through performing my first marimba piece. Jeff has a unique ability to challenge his students while encouraging them every step of the way, and his passion for percussion is contagious. His teaching left a lasting impact on my musicianship as a whole, and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking private percussion instruction.

I had the pleasure of working with Jeff Jones while earning my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at the University of Bridgeport. Jeff is a highly skilled teacher in all facets and levels of percussive studies. Whether it be introducing a student who is new to percussion, demonstrating snare, drumset or mallet technique to mid level learners, or preparing a high school or college student for recital pieces, Jeff easily adapts to a particular student’s needs and strengths. Jeff sets high standards in percussion technique, performance and theory for all levels of students.

Jeff was one of my first music teachers in the orchestral scene. All I knew at the time was how to play drums in church and Jeff introduced me to an entire new world. He showed me different techniques and helped me grow as a percussionist. He’s mentored me and treated me as if I was his own child. You can tell that he enjoys the work that he does and anyone would be LUCKY to have him as a mentor!!

Jeff was my first percussion instructor and he had an immeasurable impact on my musical growth. He approached every lesson with patience and a belief that I could not only meet, but exceed the goals set in front of me. Thinking back, I’m in true awe of the level of musicianship our percussion ensemble — which only rehearsed together for four weeks in a summer! — was able to achieve.
