About

During this enforced pause in our performance time, it makes sense to hone our skills. And once we can all gather in community again, we'll have lots of stories to share. Let me help you develop and polish your skills, so you can help share these stories.

I have been studying, performing and teaching theater for 45 years. I've performed in 49 of the 50 states. I have taught students from 5 to 91. I have a deep, well considered, philosophically based love for the craft of acting, a love I am happy to share. My approach to the work is a synthesis of the masters I've studied, the teachers I've studied under, and my life in the theater. I offer you my approach fully expecting you to develop your own - I'm merely add tools to your growing tool kit.

I truly believe in the power of theater and in the many benefits of studying acting. I love seeing students begin to gain mastery of their ablility to communicate deep, subtle, recognizable feelings.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Howard University. I completed the Folger Theater's Intensive Classical Theater Workshop for Professional Minority Actors

My first experience teaching ating was during a Summer Theater program at Howard.

I have taught most age groups. I have worked with kindergarteners and seniors. I have taught middle schoolers and masters students. I was a high school theater teacher for 7 years and I taught adults for 8.

I recently directed one of George Bernard Shaw's shorter works. I had an opportunity to cast a young man who recently graduated from my alma mater, Howard U. Doing so reminded me what a pleasure it is watch a young actor work and to pass on the benefits of my varied experience.

Look for a teacher whose style matches your goals. There are teachers who see the acting classes as relaxing and refreshing, for whom the experience is meant to be pleasurable. There are others who tend to be more serious, who expect the class to be physically and mentally strenuous. If your goal is to explore acting and have an enjoyable experience, see the a more relaxed kind of teacher. If you are preparing for a  career as a performer, or are already performing and seeking to hone your skills, you might want to find a more rigorous class.
