About this pro

Have the passion and desire to be an actor or do stand-up comedy...I did too!! I have been performing and perfecting my craft for over 25 years. I am currently teaching "No Fear Acting" at FST and have taught acting classes at Beaver Island School. My training started at "Actors Institute" and "Second City" in Chicago. I have written, performed and directed several variety shows, performed stand-up comedy at comedy clubs around the country and have taught students of all ages. I can teach dramatic acting or comedic acting and help make you a more confident and outgoing person.

I love seeing my students get excited about acting and performing. Also with my help, I love seeing them excel as an actor!!

I was lucky to have Janet as a teacher for No Fear Acting I, at FST. I had some acting experience, but had never really taken a class. Janet added so much insight and dimension to my performance! Her extensive experience and great instincts are a powerful combination and such a wonderful resource whether you are a beginner or a seasoned actor. The first things I noticed about Janet were her passion and her positive, contagious energy. She recognizes strengths immediately and helps her students build on those strengths. Janet is also a generous actor. She wants everyone to reach their full potential, tapping into emotions that will give the audience an honest and genuine performance. Janet is a wonderful teacher and has a real gift for bringing out the best in all kinds of personalities, from the shy student with stage fright, to the ham who loves the spotlight. You will be a better actor!

I took an intro acting class of 2 hours/week for 8 weeks. This was at a regional professional theatre that has an education program. This was not a methods or comparative styles class. What I got was strong, positive support, guidance in making corrections in my delivery and in the substance of my monologue: narrative vs conversational. This comes from Jan's long history on the stage, love of comedy and comedy skits. Her greatest joy is in seeing her students succeed and she certainly went the extra mile doing all she could to support students with a lack of confidence and giving shouts of praise for those who did an excellent job. She was always ready with suggestions to get the best audience response. This was my first acting class and I'd say I got what I needed to feel I could be a successful professional.

From the moment I met Jan she made me feel comfortable and brought out the best in me. She's so funny and encouraging. I absolutely love how she has made me a better, funnier person. I can't wait for our next meeting. Thanks Jan!!!
