About
The Island Theater is a 501C non-profit with a mission of theater education. We work with skilled and new actors of all ages to help them reach the next level of their journey. We hold production workshops, individual classes, and one-day workshops that train actors to succeed in their goals and dreams.
The Island Theater is a non-profit community theater that also provides professional instruction in the theatrical arts. We have a passion to help people reach their goals and potential. The best part of our volunteer work is when our students reach new levels of their best self and gain self confidence about their abilities.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We typically talk on the phone with new students to see what their goals and aims are to determine what would work best for them.
New students have the option of scheduling one on one lessons with our instructors in either audition techniques, acting lessons or musical theater dance. Ages 5-18 can also enroll in production workshops where they learn the basics and hone skills. Adult students are eligible for group workshops.
We, also, bring in theater professionals for one day master classes to help with specific interests for certain groups.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our instructors are FLDOE certified teachers with certifications in Drama 6-12 and/or Elementary Education K-6.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Prices vary:
Individual lessons cost $10 per half hour
Production Workshops (7-10 weeks depending on session) cost $225
One Day Workshops vary on instructor
How did you get started teaching?
Our instructors all are either retired classroom teachers or current classroom teachers.
What types of students have you worked with?
We work with students who have never done drama to students who have performed professionally.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In October of 2018, we put on a full production of Newsies with eight sold out audiences.
We are currently producing a student led version of Shrek which will premiere in March of 2019.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Work with someone you are comfortable with who will allow you to grow at your own rate. Ask them who they have worked with but be more concerned about how they will treat any special concerns you have about your own progress.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Decide what your end goal is and how quickly you want to reach it.
