Hopper Drops Bombs: Golf Instructor At Back Nine Leawood KS
About
I’m passionate about helping golfers of all levels improve their game and enjoy the sport even more. My journey started in Florida, where I trained under some of the top golf coaches in the state, including Gerry James and Justin James. During that time, I competed in the World Long Drive Championship and, in my very first year, ranked in the top 5 among amateur competitors.
But my love for golf has always gone beyond hitting big drives. I spent over a year and a half as a caddie at TPC Sawgrass—one of the top 10 courses in the world—where I had the opportunity to caddy Korn Ferry Tour events and learn from some of the best players and coaches in the game. That experience gave me a deep understanding of course management, mental approach, and the details that separate good golfers from great ones.
After my time at TPC, I became the Assistant Golf Professional at Deercreek Country Club in Jacksonville, where I discovered my true passion: teaching. I worked with golfers of all ages and skill levels, ran junior clinics, and even served as an assistant coach for St. Johns Public Schools.
Whether it’s helping beginners develop a solid foundation or guiding experienced players toward peak performance, I love making golf approachable, relatable, and fun. What sets me apart as an instructor is not just my technical knowledge but my ability to connect with people. I believe every lesson should be personalized, enjoyable, and packed with insights that make a real difference in your game. At Back Nine, I’m here to help you play better golf and have a great time doing it.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process is first to examine the students swing. I will have the student take about 5 or 6 balls, I will take some videos and see what exactly is wrong in the swing using my slo mo camera. Then we will go into drills and try and produce the proper technique to hit flush shot after flush shot!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been coached by 2x world long drive champion Gerry James and have also worked with his son Justin James who is currently #2 in the world in long drive. I have played golf my entire life and competed in world long drive championships! I can guarantee a 10 yard gain in distance after working with me.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
How did you get started teaching?
Working with My coach for 2 years gave me the knowledge to coach on my own and teach what he has taught me! Playing golf over the course of my entire life has given me the knowledge to pursue a career in teaching it!
What types of students have you worked with?
All types of golfers!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Competing in 2 World Long Drive Championships! I also played on the Florida Pro Tour and other mini tours around Florida!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
All good coaches have to have a passion for what they are doing. I eat, breathe, live, for golf. I would also look for a charismatic and outgoing person so the lessons are fun and enjoyable and not intimidating! Every golfer has a different pace and patience is needed in this industry.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
All questions are good questions! If you are not getting something you have to speak up and ask what it is you aren't getting! Understanding the why is just as important as going through the motion
