About

Thank you very much in your interest for Private Dance Lessons. Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, all private lessons will be offered virtually (via ZOOM) till further notice.

My name is Luctricia Welters, Ms. Lu to my students. I have over 38 years of professional experience in the dance industry. My love of dance began as a student, my passion expanded as a professional dancer with Ailey Ailey (New York); Philadanco Dance Company (Philadelphia); Lula Washington Company of Contemporary Dance (LA California) my knowledge of dance increased as a teacher, my insight of the dance industry grew as a Founding Artistic Director of a non-for-profit professional dance theater company (Jubilee Dance Theatre) and my passion is endless for assisting young aspiring dancers in their pursuit of it all. I have received many awards over my 38 (+) years, but my greatest achievement is having a front row seat to the accomplishments of students. (PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GOOGLE ME).

I enjoy the seeing the unrecognizable potential that students/ dancers have and sharing in those moments when they realize what their reaching for is actually possible. ...the joy of their own accomplishments as they improve and grow in their artistry.

    Frequently asked questions

Typical my process for working with new students/ dancers starts with getting to know about their past training and experiences and what their ultimate goals are for the future. Then provide a trail class which allows me to test their knowledge and gain some insight of their current skills . I also like to get to know the parents as well, I think its extremely important to a child's development to have the parents involvement/committement especially in the beginning stages of their practice.

My first teaching experience was with a summer camp in Tallahassee while attending FSU. The class consisted of kids from different backgrounds, levels and ages. I taught jazz and hip-hop. My next experience was at the request of my instructor from Alvin Ailey American Dance  Centre in New York. If asked if I would be his demonstrator for locations that he taught outside of the center. (One in Washington Heights a d the other at B.A.A.M. the Brooklyn Academy of Arts and Music). And of course, I said, Yes! There were many times I was left to solo and teach the classes. Not only this experience provide me with the opportunity of sharing my skills as an instructor, but it also gave me the courage to teach all ages and levels.

I have worked with beginner- beginners both children an adults....to seasoned professionals. Dancers who are enthusiast and those looking for a life-time journey of exploring their craft.

Recently, I attended the wedding of one of my former students...to me she was still that young girl I had in class just yesterday and to be invited to witness her walking down the isle to next chapter of life was an honor and a privilege.

My advice would be for them to do their own homework: research the individual that they about to hire and don't be afraid to ask questions. Parents are making two investments: 1) With their hard earned money and 2) With their child's future. Individual dancers...you are investing it all.

Students should ask about the scope of the training they are going to receive and what type of outcomes they should expect...whether it's to increase their dance vocabulary, how to do resumes, perfect stretches for their body, or their dance concentration and intensely their practice will be overseen by the instructor.
