Genjis Jacques Biography
Genji Jacques
Dubbed the "Haitian" Denzel, Genji Jacques has the dynamic talents of an actor, director, and playwright. As a versatile actor, Genji becomes the character you love to hate or want to be best friends with. Inhabiting his roles with complete authenticity, he makes every scene believable and relatable to the audience. This God given gift allows Genji to portray a character he has never played before. "I study, own it, perfect it so the audience is affected by how I play the role," says Genji. "Acting is not a hobby for me, it's a passion, and passion is the heart of acting."
Genji has been in the acting business for 15 plus years and his impeccable stage presence has garnered roles in films, stage plays, and television series. In 2000, Genji starred in the best Haitian film to date, "Wind of Desire" produced by Wilkensun Bruna Production. From 2003 to 2008, he went on to star in "Mary Jane" produced by LCS Studio Productions and "Employed" produced by Lunerversal Film Productions. He has been featured in television series such as The Glades, a crime drama with Kiele Sanchez and Carlos Gomez; Burn Notice, a sexy, action-packed series with Jeffrey Donovan and Fiona Glenanne; and HBO Ballers, a comedy series with Dwayne Johnson.
No stranger to stage plays, from 2013 - 2015, Genji starred in the sold out play, "You're Never Alone" with Grammy nominated Gospel Artist James Fortune as well as "When It All Falls Apart" with Grammy award winning R&B Artist, Chrisette Michelle, both plays produced by ZoeStream Productions. A huge departure from his true self, these roles yielded rave reviews, because the audience did not know whether to hate him for the character he played or love him for the man he truly is.
Influenced by actors such as Denzel Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Will Smith, Genji has done acting workshops with Marc Durso and Uta Hagen as well as spent significant time researching and crafting his own unique methods of success.
How can he be so authentic in his roles? "Acting is not just entertaining but also ministering to people who go through things in life," says Genji. "I play each role with a purpose so whatever I play is changing someone's life."
Acting has developed Genji into being a director. His key to success as a director is to bring chemistry to the cast. Chemistry develops a unification which leads to love among the group positioning them to do their best work. He has written and directed several stage plays including, "Hoztage," and "When Good Men Are Tempted," both of which were sold out productions and produced by Godz Sun Productions, his production company co-operated with his wife, Sandra Justice.
Genji played his most meaningful role to date in "The Unknowns: Talent is Colorblind" produced by Top Cat Productions. A film based on a true story, Genji plays the lead role of Alfred T. Hair, an artist in Florida who painted with a passion. Alfred's life was set in the times of the segregated South which he skillfully navigated to become well-loved and known for his artistry.
Genji resides in Fort Lauderdale with his wife, Sandra Jacques also known as Sandra Justice. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from University of South Florida and a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry from the University of Fort Lauderdale. How did you get started teaching?
I started teacing in the year 2015. Being in the entertainment industry for 15 plus years, preferably in stage and in film, I gained alot of experieince and took acting classes, do self research, and developed my own acting skills to help me learn about the craft of acting and the importance of understanding the mechenisms to duplicate human behavior when playing a role. As a result, I took the intiative to conduct my own private classes to help others to develop their skills and be the actor from within so they can perform effectively before a live audience.
What types of students have you worked with?
I worked with mostly beginner students and some seasoned . students as well from the ages 16 and up.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was a volunteer of The American Black Film Festival and was very fond of this event because it gives all actors the opportunity to meet other actors and hear and learn from celebrity actors about the entertainment industry. I plan to volunteer again in the year 2020 and hopefully one day become staff of The American Black Film Festival Organization.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The advice that I would give a student is to make sure they research, get referrals, and observe if the teacher has a good track record and the expertise to help educate and develop your acting skills.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1) Does this acting coach have experience in the field on which I need my training on.
2) Does this acting coach truely have a passion on helping his student to perfect his/her craft.
