About
I am a graduate from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama and very passionate about teaching the craft of acting! Not only am I a trained actor but I have ten years of experience working with aspiring artists on all levels! Whether you are just starting out with no experience, or advanced and wanting coaching for a specific audition, I love having the opportunity to explore and play and help you find confidence and joy out of acting! I find that this joy and confidence often spills over into our every day lives whether at work, or school, with our friends and family, and can be a game changer as you move forward through this thing we call LIFE.
I love seeing the journey and the process. I love how the first time an aspiring artist does a monologue or a scene can evolve into something even more powerful and impactful than he or she ever thought it could. I love seeing the confidence grow, and the surprise on the aspiring artist's face when perhaps he or she did not know that they had that performance or ability in them!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Every aspiring artist is on their own path. For our first lab, I will want to explore where the artist is on this path. Is this your first time dipping your toe in the world of acting? If you have acted before or taken lessons before, what did you feel you accomplished previously and what are your goals for the future? Is this just a hobby or are you planning to audition? Are you wanting to get into a school somewhere? All of these questions will be asked at the very beginning! It is important both the aspiring artist and I are on the same page and both know what the objective is! Once this is established we will discuss the plan of action moving forward. This could look like a 30-60 minute class (depending on the artist's preference) with exercises at the beginning, warming up the physical component of acting (your body, your movement) and the vocal component (speech, diction, voice range). We would then move onto the material. If the artist already has audition material he or she would like to work on we would dive in! If not? I will have already assessed after our first intitial session what kind of material would be right for the artist, send it to the artist via email so that he or she could start memorization and we would again DIVE IN and start exploring! This is where it gets really fun!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a trained actor from one of the top acting conservatories in the country! I graduated with both university and college honors from Carnegie Mellon University and have worked professionally since 2007. If you would like to see my acting resume I have no problem sending it to you!

60 minute class + needed material - $100
30 minute class + the artist brings their own material - $50

How did you get started teaching?
I spent a summer away from college in the beautiful Martha's Vineyard teaching a summer theatre camp! It was amazing and very fulfilling getting to see the young aspiring artists grow in their craft from May to August. I then started to help coach aspiring artists in high school looking to get into acting schools. This is a particular passion of mine! I would leave my sessions with them feeling energized and knew that this was part of my purpose!
What types of students have you worked with?
All different types! I have worked with ages 3-26! Some had no experience, and others were planning to do this as a career! All are welcome in The Laura Winkles Acting Lab!
