I've been taking lessons with Ms. Bury for over a decade since I was in elementary school. She managed to transform what initially was a begrudged obligation into a remarkable and invaluable part of my character, in the form of musical experience and the ability to call myself a pianist. She has appropriate and generous expectations of her students, simply asking for dedication and enthusiasm while actively encouraging growth in both skill and potential material through challenging, but rewarding pieces.
I began as most students will with a continuous repertoire of classical music as a means to build a foundation, while today I choose my own musical endeavors through all sorts of genres including pop, rock, cinematic OSTS and many more. She has helped every step of the way, by encouraging participation in bi-annual recitals and other performances, as well as assistance with creating my own pieces. She has been kind, supportive and perhaps most importantly of all, held me accountable for both my own growth as a student, not only in music but in all walks of life. Even today I find myself learning about music theory, while simultaneously studying law.
Ultimately, I think it's best put this way. There aren't many people involved in the profession of teaching anything, that earn the respect and/or reliability to warrant over a decade of trust from their students. From my experience, Ms. Bury deserves to be recognized for both those attributes and many more, and I believe it would be an incredible opportunity for any other prospective students to learn from her.
