How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching Ballet at the age of 17, when my teacher asked me to take over her school for the summer when she was not available. I have been teaching ever since, and have expanded my training and experience in dance and theater for over four decades. While working in Spain as a Flamenco dancer, I was asked to teach and coach many of the dancers in the studios in which I rehearsed. In 1985, I started my own Flamenco school and in 1995, I founded PAN, Performing Arts Network where I have taught Ballet, Flamenco, Classical Spanish Dance, Creative Movement, Acting and Creative Writing continuously up to the present.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages and levels of ability.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My most recent production of Dracula at the Colony Theatre where I created an original script and interpreted this classic story in the language of Flamenco music and dance with Guest Artists from Spain.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise to look at the credentials and the work of the instructor and then take one class to determine wheter their teaching style is a "good gift".
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think through what their goals are.
