Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Ask them if they have something specific they want to work on? If so, I ask to look at their current swing before proceeding. I try to treat the root causes, not symptoms of poor ball striking.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing golf for 35 years. I worked at a golf course growing up and fell in love with the game. I shot a 5 under on a little 2800 yard course at age 18. I can break 80 from 6500 yard tees. I have studied a lot of golf textbooks, taken lessons myself, and continue to stay on top of the game using online resources.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard rate is $40 for up to 1 hour. But realistically, since I just do this for enjoyment, I will be honest and say the strength of my game has always been driving, short game, putting. The weakness has been iron play if that will help you in your decision making. I give lessons for fun as much as I do for money, so if you honestly don't think anything has changed from the beginning of the lesson to the end (1 hour), I am happy with $20 to cover gas to get there. . I never reply to advanced players because I am not in that category myself. In other words, If I send you a quote, It sincerely means that I know I am capable of helping you based upon what your problem or inability may be.
How did you get started teaching?
Through many years of being a student of the game. I have literally read in excess of 50 teaching philosophy books, taken many lessons myself, and continue to seek out better ways to teach and provide practice ideas for the student to take home.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all ages of students. I have mostly worked with beginner to intermediate, but a few advanced sprinkled in there. I would not try to bid or teach someone who says they are advanced or had problems I did not think I could solve.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Satisfaction Guaranteed. If you feel you did not learn something valuable, or your primary problem was not solved, you can keep your lesson fee.
This is really an individual decision based upon availability, price, experience, etc. People know what they want and always shop around.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is the motive of seeking someone's help?
It could be a physical limitation.
It could be they just cannot figure something out themself.
Have they taken lessons for the problem and not seen the results?
