I enjoy seeing my clients discover a voice they never knew existed. When the ladies hit that High C6 with full resonance and support, or when the guys heroically sing out a fully belted A5, I feel like I’m in heaven. And the reaction they make is priceless!! I think the secret is to not give up or beat yourself up but to forgive and allow yourself to crack and know that it’s part of the process!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The typical process when working with a new student is to engage proper breathing and breath support for optimal singing and abdominal connection. This is achieved through a special 40 second breathing technique. Once this is accomplished, vocal chord coordination is assessed and a voice type is determined.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Vocal performance and a Masters of Music degree from the Juilliard School. I have travelled to eight different countries as well as the East and West coasts of America performing for sold out audiences singing in four different languages. I am lead sololist on the Grammy Award winning Morgan State University Silver Anniversary Concert. I am an eight time award winning director of "The Book False Profit" showing on Tubi TV.

How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching as a request to so many fans who admired my own singing and repeatedly asked if I taught in addition to my professional career. For years my reply was always a resounding “No!!” I travelled so much singing in other countries and rarely ever stayed in one place for an extended period of time. I simply did not have enough down time to be consistent with training other individuals. Therefore, I knew taking on any students wouldn’t be something I could commit to. Nonetheless, I knew there was a gift and an overwhelming passion inside me to share with other performers. As I continued my own professional Opera career, I began to notice how little performing opportunities that were available for minorities. That passion inside me began to grow so strong that I wanted to create performing opportunities for urban communities. I then started Ultimate Soprano, Inc. with its mission “To provide an open door for aspiring young artists.” Hence, teaching commenced.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have students from all stages of development and ages ranging from six (6) years old as a complete novice who have never had a voice lesson or acting class, never been in chorus, cannot read music, have never had a table read, to teens as playlist favorites on SoundCloud and Spotify as well as professional singing and acting artists with top number one hit records on the charts, singers on The Voice, lead award winning actors, performers in Off-Broadway hits and International pop and social media sensations.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
There are several events which recently I have taken pleasure in as a vocal coach. Two of my teenagers were accepted and are attending the Manhattan School of Music as Opera performance majors on a full scholarship, others are attending Boston Conservatory, Florida State University, Fisk University, University of Florida, IThaca college, Howard University, Pace University, Carneige Mellon University, NYU, University of central Florida and University of Michigan. One of my adult actors was accepted to Stellar Adler Studio of Acting in New York City as an aspiring Thespian. Several of my teenagers includung my own daughter was awarded an applause award for best lead actor in a musical and the chance to represent Orlando, Fl as a candidate for the Jimmy Awards in New York City. One of my professional artist released her new single and video which was the highlight at the EDC Orlando 2019 and hit #1 on the Billboard charts in Italy.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise to logically decide if they are comfortable with having a male or female vocal coach or if they feel it doesn’t matter. Then have a vocal consultation with the coach and ask as many questions to see if they might be a good fit for learning as well as inspiration.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Before talking to teachers about their needs students should have a clear goal of what they want to accomplish with their voices. They should decide if training is for casual desire like just being able to sing better in their church choir or if they want to pursue a professional career and if so, in what genre of music.
