Being a self taught guitarist gives me a deep understanding of the struggles students face when trying to learn the instrument for the first time. My approach focuses on building a sense of "guitar/musical intuition" that is accessible to beginners of all ages. I strongly believe students need to learn what they like to play, not simply memorize information a teacher gives them. I also believe you learn most when you are doing what you love and when you are having fun doing it.
I have taught children as young as 4 and adults in their 80's. I enjoy teaching because I value transmitting information to people with curiosity and passion. I have found in my years of schooling that many instructors approach teaching with a preconceived agenda, which ends up muddling their topic and deterring students from asking questions. I enjoy teaching for the opposite reasons, and feel rewarded in helping students develop the tools they need to explore music from a place of intuitive understanding.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process is first to understand the reason why a student wants to play, so that I can begin to formulate a lesson plan for them. My next step is to ask students about their musical influences. After this, I will explain the basic parts of the guitar and the purpose they serve. After this a student will be ready to learn some very basic songs such as "Smoke On The Water" and "Twinkle Twinkle".
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a batchelors degree in Philosophy as well as Classical Civilizations, and I currently operate a printmaking and publishing studio in Tampa. I have taught children, adults, and seniors the basics of guitar for roughly a decade.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
How did you get started teaching?
What types of students have you worked with?
I have been teaching beginners since highschool, when I worked teaching young children how to play tennis. A few years later I began giving guitar lessons to my grandfather and acquaintances.
