What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first asses your knowledge and movement ability and understanding while at the same time noteing corrections that may need to be made to get you to desired level or ability.
I also create a regiment to help maintain and increase strength and flexibility while away from me outside of private lesson.
I over all build your weaknesses so that your strenghts begin to get stronger

Originally from New London, Connecticut, Calan Bryant is a tour de force artist who has trained in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical, African and more.
A former college football player, he has danced and trained with a cadre legendary dancers including such luminaries as Todd Rosenlieb (of Hawkins Dance Company and Todd Rosenlieb Dance Company), Ricardo Melendez (of Ballet San Juan and Martha Graham), Laurianne Graves (as The Firebird of the Dance Theatre of Harlem), and Clover Mathis, an original company member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and an artist with Dance Theatre of Harlem.
A gifted teacher, he has choreographed and taught for countless institutions including the Ella Fitzgerald Theater (Newport News, Virginia), Dance 411 (Atlanta, Georgia), RISPA (Alpharetta, Georgia), Triple 7 Dance Company (Snellville, Georgia), Dreams in Motion (Newport News, Virginia), Phusion Dance Company (Lilburn, Georgia), Ikonic Dance Convention (Atlanta, Georgia), Hampton University (Hampton, Virginia), Old Dominion University (Norfolk, Virginia), Reaction Dance Company (New York, New York), Beauty for Ashes School of Contemporary Dance and Theatre Company (Hampton, Virginia), Oasis Dance Company (Washington, District of Columbia), Writers Bloc Inc. (Connecticut), the City of Newport News, the City of Hampton, and Bad Boy Entertainment (New York, New York).
He has worked with artists from multiple genres such as Andrew Donoho (VMA award-winning Director), Levi Little (from the Grammy award-winning R&B group Blackstreet), Erica Dixon (VH1's Love & Hip Hop Atlanta), Rae Sremmurd (American hip hop duo), Drea Kelly (Choreographer, Dancer, and Star of VH1's HollywoodExes), all girl recording group B.O.Y (Be Only You), Tyler Layne (iHeartRadio on-air personality), Chosen Wilkins (writer and actor), Stephan James (Actor in Race and Selma), Freddie Jackson, misstrendi.com, K'Bana Blaq aka TrapRock MisFit, and The Unifics. He has appeared on Greenleaf, ATLANTA, Power and in other television and film productions.
A 2014 recipient of the Virginia Beach Branch of NAACP Award for top choreography and dancing, he was also recognized that year as the most inspirational teacher at the ACE awards and he was a nominee for The Virginian/Pilot Citizen of the Year Award.

How did you get started teaching?
Ive been teaching since 13 years old from connecticut New York Virginia and now Atlanta i found my gift along with being an amazing performer is cultivating talent helping them reach there goals and above and choreographing masterpieces.
I have a heart and understanding of humble beggining and i am very patient with the process of growth but i also know with the right push and motivation time will never be the factor in how fast you will grow.
I have not choreographed a routine that has not placed in top 3 of any competition i have entered.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be ready to work at your full ability have fun and work at the same time.
