Hi everyone! My name is Dave Lockwood.  I’ve been teaching guitar lessons in Duluth full time for about 10 years. I’ve come across just about every type of student, and in that time, I’ve learned how to explain things to people in a way that they finally get it. I’ve learned how to give people just the right amount of push to keep them on track with their goals. Even after almost 30 years of being a guitar player, I still get excited about playing and listening to music. That’s what I enjoy most about teaching – showing students how exciting it can be. Come join the fun!I'm new to this site, so I don't ... View Profile

I'm an audio engineering student @ SAE in Atlanta, and have been doing music professionally for 18 years. I have a five-year-old and have mentored more people than I can count, so am a natural teacher who is extremely patient and great with kids and adults of all ages. I play several intruments (guitar, piano, ukulele, banjo, and mandolin in that order) and have a studio full of awesome keyboards, stringed instruments, hardware/software, synths with patchbays and midi controlllers (namely Maschine MKIII, Akai MPK mini, and Novation Circuit) the student can get some hands-on experience with if desired. ... My teaching approach: de-mystifying theory for an advanced understanding of songs, songwriting and soloing. I studied at Berklee College of Music (also New England Conservatory, BU Conservatory) and prefer the simplicity of Berklee's theory approach. I use it continually as a player, songwriter and performer - in original and tribute bands. My influences are: Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Chet Atkins, Django Reinhardt, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, George Harrison, and more. My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio or the student's home Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: Boutique Guitar Exchange and in home lesson ... View Profile

I’ve been teaching students of all ages, backgrounds, and desires how to achieve their goals in learning music since 2005. The big factor that sets my lessons apart from my competition is that the lessons are 100% tailored broth, tto the indi, vidual student, teaching proper technique and artistry through whatever stylistic directions the student wishes to take.

I teach to the student's taste whenever I can: I personally choose the pieces we work on personally, and make such decisions to individually/for each student. Therefore, I choose songs the student is explicitly expressed interest in whenever such choices are fit and able to be applied to the subject matter. I make a specific effort to select music the student has expressly communicated interest in, whether it be the song itself, its artist, or even its genre, I do the best I can.  Secondly, I mostly work with kids. I find them to be more challenging and more rewarding as students (no offense to adults, I hope). I feel the same about teen ... View Profile

I believe in comprehensive music education including music theory - while being sure to inform student of shortcut tools available for understanding the foundations of composition.  Having the student write their own music should begin at the first lesson, if the student approaches the subject with an open mind and healthy curiousity about the subject.  I had been a music major my first year in college.  My current musical involvement is with The Trey Clegg Singers as a Tenor I ( a semi-professional multicultural choir based in Atlanta Georgia ). I have instrumental and vocal experience along with music writing / lyric writing ... View Profile

I don't schedule lesson back-to-back, but always with at least a 15 minute "buffer" period between lessons; that way I can properly finish any lesson, even if the student is having an epiphany right when the scheduled less ...
