Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I typically consult with students and assess their current skill level and knowledge of terminology. The student’s level of experience and work ethic determines how quickly I move on the lessons & an end of session evaluation will help me determine what needs more focus for future lessons. I am equipped to work with all levels, though, so experience is not needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have danced for 17 years with training in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary/modern, novelty, hip hop, lyrical, liturgical, military/high kick & majorette dance. I also have some cheer experience, but have mostly competed in dance competitions & performed with the collegiate teams/companies, Mahogany N Motion under the Morehouse College House of Funk Marching Band, Groove Theory Dance and Spelman Dance Theater - contributing choreographic works to both. Additionally, I am training to dance and choreograph professionally.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$20/hr for individuals, $35/hr for groups of 2-3, and $60/hr for groups 4+
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching liturgical dance in church and as an officer on my high school dance team. Since then, I have taught technique/style classes, workshops, and cardio/fitness at studios, in training and for special occasions.
What types of students have you worked with?
All levels from no experience to advanced
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be honest about your level and open to critique. I’m here to help you not make you feel any less. The more trust we have in one another, the better I can help you achieve your goals.
