Amy’s greatest love and passion is bringing people together through the inspirational power of rhythm, which she achieves through her dedication and commitment to teaching the traditional music of West Africa.She brings an infectious enthusiasm to her teaching and has a unique ability to inspire both kids and adults to reach their fullest potential.

Amy is a Tam Tam Mandingue Djembe Academy International Djembe Instructor with Mamady Keita and a Certified Associate Instructor with Tam-Tam Mandingue Winston-Salem, Director Bill Scheidt, which is part of the international network of West African drumming schools. She has a Therapeutic Drum Certification for high risk youth, Healthrhythm Certification, and Drum Circle Facilitation with Arthur Hull and Kalani.

Amy will introduce good technique, basic sounds for the djembe, fun warm ups, a traditional West African rhythm, songs, splashes of history and culture from West Africa.

Amy has been teaching West African djembe/dunun since 2007 in the Atlanta/Decatur area. She is the music director of an all women's percussion ensemble that plays primarily West African music since 2002 and was in a diverse high energy group for 10 years with Ten Blocks Away. She teaches kids and adults, private and group classes, schools, special groups, and seniors.

DrumRise’s unique programs are designed to inspire, excite, and engage students in the learning process, while providing valuable lessons in teamwork, cooperation, and expression. Kids and teens benefit in many ways, experiencing an energetic and physical activity that has been shown to help students focus and cope with emotional highs and lows.
