What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I asses their goals and skills based on what they say they wish to learn or just do for the fun of learning something new. I usually have a short free consultation.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
French Culinary Arts Graduate with over 10 years of experience. Former Executive Chef and current food entrepreneur. I am latino and have a solid background working with different cuisines. Soul food, vegan vegetarian, ethnic. I am an advocate of clean eating and using all your product to reduce waste.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $35 an hour and have a minimum booking of 2 hrs per session. I believe a succesful lesson should be 2 hrs and should not extend further than that unless is a special request.
How did you get started teaching?
A local cooking school doung latin dishes. Always have passion to teach home cooks that there is so much they can do in little time with what they have at home.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with diverse backgrounds and skill sets. From begginers to advanced.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Did a cooking class where we devided teams making different components of the meal and then we came together to finalize the project. Lots of interactive question answer moments. Demonstration by having people do hands on as I instructed. It was fun and super educational.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I say it is very important to have good rapport with your instructor since you will be given constant instructions and are being lead to ensure the flow of the class is effective and the student gets the most out of it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Definitely ask your self what this experience is going to give you? What are your goals from these classes? If is just for personal growth, for fun, or educational. It is good to know to establish the proper approach to the class.
