The Phison Percussion Studio is a is a fresh, innovative musical instruction concept founded by performer, educator and entrepreneur, Christopher Yearian. The purpose for The Phison Percussion Studio, which sets it apart from other great places in Atlanta, is to build percussionists of all ages with the traditional method and musicianship instruction, but also delve deep into the fundamental concepts of musical structure through theory studies, ear and piano training, rhythm analysis, and history.
About his background, Christopher Yearian has had the privilege of teaching young children to young adults, from their first lesson to their first performance, from early grade school all the way to up to college and beyond, since the 1990’s. Christopher is currently an adjunct staff member with the Mercer School of Music, serving as the marching percussion coordinator, arranger and front ensemble instructor with the Mercer University Marching band. As a performer, Christopher has toured with ensembles throughout Europe and the United States, including the United States Intercollegiate Wind Orchester, the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps and Brass Theatre with the Star of Indiana.
Christopher is a graduate of Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance and the recipient of the coveted Performer’s Certificate, where he studied percussion with Gerald Carlyss (Philadelphia Orchestra), Thom Stubbs (St. Louis Symphony) and William Roberts (Denver Symphony). At Indiana University, Christopher also placed a strong concentration in composition, theory and orchestration, studying with famed composers David Dzubay, Claude Baker, Daniel Godfrey and Frederick Fox. Throughout high school in Georgia, he was blessed with an intensive study of drum set techniques and styles from John LaMattina at the LaMattina Drum Studio. Christopher’s first job as a teenager was teaching private percussion lessons at the LaMattina Drum Studio and has since taught many public and private school programs throughout Indiana and Georgia, Drum and Bugle Corps from DCI to DCA and up to the college level at Mercer University.
When not teaching music, Christopher works in the residential and commercial real estate industry, who is a licensed mortgage loan officer.
