About

Experienced Teacher with diverse subject expertise. Skilled at conveying sophisticated knowledge concisely and straightforwardly. Friendly and energetic professional with strong people skills in working with students to help them achieve and succeed. Adept at improving both group and individual concept understanding and performance, as well as creating study materials in various academic subjects to help students improve their test scores and GPAs. Always provided students with progress notes, setting learning standards/objectives, and tracking improvements by giving students quizzes, tests, orally, and written to assess their progress. My favorite group of students is K5-5th grade, as I have entire years' worth of curriculum written and organized by months, dates, projects, academics, and teaching them to read and write (phonics based). STEM-focused Education opens students to new subjects; it also allows for different learning methodologies, allows for the inclusion of curiosity, places spotlight on project-based learning – which is common in STEM –provides opportunities for authentic growth and development.

It is excellent to watch pre-k and Kindergarten and other young students as they attempt to create a working light out of wire, batteries, switches, and a small bulb. As the Teacher, the only direction I may offer is for the switch to be used in the project. While walking around the room, I can observe auditorily and visually as my students work together to create their light, randomly calling on students, using the Socratic teaching method for further instructions. Elementary teachers that use STEM or STEAM-based curricula can give their students room to explore, experiment, and solve problems logically.

Teaching STEM in elementary grades allows young children to build a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and "Art" when added. Teachers can foster critical thinking through problem-solving in elementary STEM education and provide students with an academic edge over the competition.

These are the young musicians who take music with them for the rest of their lives, in whatever capacity that deems right for them. It is important for myself to take time to listen to my students' needs, whether musically or academically and help them set their goals, while continually moving forward and achieving/mastering their educational and musical goals.

Success based piano lessons and purposeful home practice mean that pianists improve daily. Frequently asked questions

I have maintained a very high standard of academic achievement at each school that I have taught for across the continental U.S., as well as within my own company Southern Academy of Higher Education LLC.  However, my impact as a teacher/tutor extends beyond scores to focus on each individual student. I have held supplementary tutoring sessions with struggling and particular needs students and regularly integrate new classroom technologies into a lesson to excite my students.  Given my years of experience and passion for teaching, I am confident that I would make a positive impact as part of the professional education and tutoring any subject needed.

My educational background, along with my professional experience, makes me an excellent candidate for any position that allows for planning, managing, developing, editing, writing, proofreading lesson plans, and other documents, as well as educating students/adults of all ages, requiring leadership of programs/classes, communication, or administrative responsibilities. I currently hold a BA in History and have completed my Master’s in Public Administration. The positions that I have been fortunate to obtain and as a recent owner, director, planner, decorator, interior designer, educator/teacher, mentor, colleague, friend, and active citizen within my community, I consider a privilege. I currently enjoy flexibility in being employed by Varsity Tutors and certified to teach, as well as qualified in over 150 subject areas, including TEFL, SPED, dysgraphia, dyslexia, and other learning challenge areas. Events that I have planned and expertly executed have been with professionalism, uniqueness, and overall design aspect. Courses and classes that I have taught, activities completed, and programs that I have been able to implement all required administrative skills/knowledge and development of budgets/programs and allowed for the implementation of unique ideas that would prove beneficial to many.  Involvement in so many various programs has given me the platform to be able to teach, speak, develop grade-appropriate curriculum and activities, courses, and other classes. The classes, and special speaking engagements, often led to success and personal development for the attendees. It was gratifying to be able to work as a pre-k teacher, followed by later teaching long term for James City County Public Schools. While teaching, I enjoyed writing and creating lesson plans for various grade levels with unique activities, creative presentations, and more.

Travel allowed for growth and development in my leadership skills, as I had the privilege of being on the board for Cal Ripken Baseball, the co-director for two separate MOPS groups, and directed many church organizations, as well as a Girl Scout troop leader, swim coach, softball coach, and more. For three summers, I was a camp counselor at the “Fresh Air Home” in GA, with its rich history, located on Tybee Island in GA for underprivileged children, then as a leader/mentor/counselor for “The Living Vine,” in Savannah, GA, my senior year of college.  I found myself learning from unique experiences and developing personal fundamental leadership skills.  Volunteering as President for PTA and PTO’s respectively,  being an Ombudsman for multiple USCG units, teaching piano; holding the position as team mom for well respected an extensive high school football program  at Warhill Highschool in Williamsburg, VA,  being President of “Wellington Estates Homeowners Association” and working at a large University, has only enhanced my role as a leader. More recently, it was rewarding to own an event planning venue. The venue, “Lighthouse Historical Venue,” required me, as the owner, to ensure every aspect of each event for every client (from birthday parties, showers, graduations, reunions, weddings/receptions, rehearsal dinners, homeschool events, and community engagement events), were well planned, designed and executed in the most professional manner. Each of these jobs or volunteer experiences have required a high degree of both educational and financial knowledge, computer skills, creating documents, newsletters, public speaking, communication with others, website design and management, making important decisions while ensuring budgets are adequately maintained and reviewed, and signing many requisitions and purchase orders. The volunteer positions that I currently hold or have held, as well as previous jobs included those that allow, or have allowed for keeping active in the community and engaging/networking with others in the business world as well as my church and with family and friends throughout Effingham County. The most important job, being a dedicated wife mother, close to my family, my church, and ensuring overall personal goals are met, as well as jobs and volunteer positions chosen are enjoyable.

As a wife and mom of a college graduate and a daughter whose passion is “horses,” 4-H, etc., I find myself immersed in these things as well. I consider myself to be a very extroverted person and feel I have the leadership training, knowledge, and personality to enhance and lead any program that I’m blessed to be apart of. I thoroughly enjoy planning, teaching, evaluating, implementing programs and have many ideas for programs. Teaching and earning skills, earning certifications, expanding my vocabulary daily, allow me to keep my education, technological advances, and skills as well as knowledge of social media current. Finally, having the privilege of being a Coast Guard wife and traveling the continental United States for the past 22 years, as well as being a stay at home mom for 20 years, allowed for volunteering, leading, directing, owning my own businesses, and starting/directing many programs. I believe there is not a more significant way to learn about such a diverse nation than to share in the many amazing experiences that were presented. I do enjoy editing, writing, and reading reports, thesis papers, articles, stories, both fiction and non-fiction, as well as have a deep love for literature. English as a second language has become something that I find myself enjoying teaching, writing lesson plans, and executing them as well. Most recent completion of the TEFL certification course and currently working on becoming a certified Google classroom Educator.

I have taught in classrooms having 15-30 students, and at times 100-2000, while adhering to both public school and private curriculum guidelines. As a result of my instruction and supplementary tutoring, my students achieved well on tests taken, and their study skills and knowledge of each subject were remarkable.

I maintain this high standard of academic achievement at each school that I have been privileged to teach in across the continental U.S. However, my impact as a teacher extends beyond scores to focus on each individual student. I have held supplementary tutoring sessions with struggling and special needs students and regularly integrate new classroom technologies into a lesson to excite my students. Given my years of experience and passion for teaching, I am confident that I would make a positive impact as part of the professional instruction team in your remarkable educational setting.

I have taught students over 3 coasts of various ages with different backgrounds, experiences and more.

Education is an admirable and as a Teacher, I can help change the world!

My level of interest falls within a broad spectrum of all subject areas and activities. I strongly believe teaching/tutoring, had substantial benefits for students who are willing and eager to push past obstacles and learn fundamentals, core concepts and finally generalized thought processes with engagement. I am passionate and enthusiastic when I teach all students, as it brings joy and a zeal. love to see when a student realizes that they finally "know and are confident in themselves". Affirmation and praise, ensuring all students of any age knows they are "Highly Intelligent". I believe I possess many of the skills required to be a great teacher, many that were developed through my own personal, various work experiences teaching in public and private schools, and by homeschooling my own daughter, while traveling the continental US for over 22 years. I am a very organized, patient and positive person. I love the idea that I will somehow be able to shape the future of young children and play and important role in the lives of older students and adult learners. I also understand the challenge and demands of teaching, but ultimately find it to be very rewarding when a student masters a goal or achieves a milestone. I have a positive personality and cheerful disposition that engage students of all ages and thankfully have always been able to maintain a good rapport with the students I have taught and currently teach. I am confident in my ability to help any student with time management, study and research skills, communication skills, public speaking and test taking strategies as well. It is my goal to use my, Master’s in Public Administration, and my undergraduate degree in History to pursue a job as an Educator and/or Administrator while continuing with lifelong learning. While doing so, it is my desire to continue teaching my own high schooled, as I have for many years and completing her extensive portfolio for college admission into Electrical Engineering. Found to be rewarding and fun, I love volunteering and working where I can best utilize my skills and knowledge within a professional atmosphere, as President of Effingham Women in Business, teaching voice and piano, leading any women's group, speaking at conferences throughout the U.S., decorating and directing events, teaching classes on a variety of topics (list provided upon request).  I consider myself to be highly organized and detail oriented, having more than twenty years' experience with giving organized administrative support to many organizations and companies, coordinating management meetings, high-level conference calls/ special events, completing administrative tasks, maintaining records, typing thesis papers, grading/editing English essays and taking on multiple tasks at once are essential in my day to day tasks. I am an individual who will go above and beyond; consider myself to have an excellent work ethic and strength in boosting companies, boards and organizations morale. It is my desire to maintain a quality-focused and committed approach to all Administrative and Educational Leadership jobs with tenacity and attention to detail.  “Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.”  So much truth in this Chinese Proverb”

Finally, I am reminded of my favorite author Robert Fulghum and his book “All I Ever Really Needed to Know, I learned in Kindergarten”.  I love to read excerpts from this book and show student from k-4 through college how applicable and true this credo really is.  I find this section particularly astounding and would like to close with these thoughts from Fulghum’s book: “Wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.

Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup—they all die. So, do we.

And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned—the biggest word of all—LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.

Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or your government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all—the whole world—had cookies and milk about three o’clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess.

And it is still true, no matter how old you are—when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.”

Has has my teacher mentioned the center previous lesson or went over this particular topic?

What would my teacher decide to do first when dealing with this problem I have?

How can I demonstrate to my teacher that I have tried and striving to meet the goals that she and I set the very first day of my lessons?
