Sketchworks Comedy offers classes in Sketch Acting and Sketch Writing. Students learn how to develop over the top, believable characters, physical comedy, and of course comedic timing. We utilize a variety of improv exercises to help students loosen up, think of their feet, the "don't think, just do" appoach and trusting oneself in making decisions. The work we do with students culminates in a live, scripted sketch comedy showcase.
Founded in 2001, Sketchworks Comedy features some of Atlanta’s top working comedy writers and performers. Sketchworks Comedy’s current cast and alumni have gone on to write for network TV show and perform in film, television, and stage productions. As opposed to unscripted improv, Sketchworks Comedy performs short, written sketches and films, and celebrates comedy writers every bit as much as comic actors. The format of a Sketchworks Comedy show is similar to Saturday Night Live or MadTV.
The instructors at Sketchworks are all working professional actors. They act, write, and create original content not only for live Sketchwork Comedy shows but they create quality content for you tube, social media, and comedy websites like Funny or Die. It just doesn't get any better than learning from those that are doing.
Its a great positive environment; good constructive advice in a format that's great for learning and growing in sketch comedy.
Everything. Look if you want to learn about comedy and be around super talented people who actively work in and around every performance profession in Atlanta... This is the place. I took a class on a whim 4 years ago. One of the best decisions I could have made. Trust me you need to meet these people, as a perk it’s a heck of a good time. If you want to get your feet wet in acting or comedy you can definitely start here, for the seasoned performer you get to collaborate with an amazing talent pool and really find the freedom to create with no boundaries.
The theatre creates an amazing atmosphere where you feel safe to explore all possibilities. I love Sketchworks because I learned so much about creating different kinds of characters. These people are really funny and they make you feel very welcomed.
