Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1) I do a short interview with you to find out your playing background, and goals.
2) Then I conduct a oncourt evaluation of your skills and abilities.
3) I then work on a lesson plan to help you achieve your goals and improve your game.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Global Professional Tennis Coaches Association (ITF) Level-A certification, I am the ONLY tennis professional in Atlanta with this certification and one of 2 in the Southern Division, there are only 17 in the USA, 93 in the world. The minimum qualifications to hold a Level-A Professional certification from the ATP is you have to have been ranked in the top 100 in the world as a player, or have taught a minimum of one player ranked in the top 100 in the world. I have had the pleasure of coaching 10 players so far.
I also hold a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Elite Pro certification (34 years), and am a Etchenberry Certified Sports Trainer.
I have been involved off the court in the tennis industry as a leader as well. I was a Vice-President of both the USPTA Georgia and California Board of Directors, and am currently the Treasurer of the Georgia Professional Tennis Association (GPTA).
As a player I played for the University of Texas (Division 1) and am a former touring professional (ATP certified)
I am semi-retire currently and no longer travel and coach because I love what I do.

How did you get started teaching?
Started teaching as a junior during summer camps and in college during summer break. Went back to teaching as a teaching professional at country clubs after retiring from the ATP tennis tour. Turned Pro out of college. (UT Austin) I have currently coached 10 top 100 WTA / ATP players including several grand slam champions.
What types of students have you worked with?
10U through world ranked.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
BB&T tournament took juniors to tournament along with the tennis professionals from the club. Was a great time and memory for all. Will be doing it again this July.
Went to the Davis Cup match in Birmingham, AL.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Always make sure your coach/professional is certified. There are many so-called professionals with no background teaching all over the Atlanta area at Associations, Parks, and Schools.
Go online and check them out. Don't just take their word for it. You can't call yourself a professional without the proper education and background any more than a doctor, lawyer, or accountant can in their profession without their certification.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are their goals and what do they wish to achieve. Together we can develop a plan and a realistic set of goals and work to achieve them.
EX. Make the high school tennis team, Move up from a 3.0 to a 3.5 USTA rating, etc..
