My daughter really enjoyed her first lesson with Matt. Previous instructors did not take the time to ask about her interests, goals, and music preferences. She really appreciated that Matt took the time to teach with her instead of teaching at her.

    Frequently asked questions

Every student is different and so this question is hard to sum up in a worded answer, however, I'll try to touch the different learning styles I've come across.

Kinesthetic- learning material by feeling or touch with the sticks or mallets

Visual- likes to see music as a reference of understanding/memory

Auditory- tends to listen more actively to the sounds being produced and does a good job playing sounds or copying them back

There are more and of course all three branch off into other subcategories of learning styles. I like to be present with my students and to be open to what they are feeling on that particular day while trying my best to keep a foundation/structure to the learning development.

    10 years of private lessons

Taught 2 years of a middle school percussion ensemble that consisted of 30 or more members

Instructor for 6 marching bands in Illinois as snare technician and main battery caption head

Performs with the Chicago Bulls drumline actively

Graduated with a Percussion Business degree with emphasis on performance from NIU

I am very lenient with the price. I never feel like teaching lessons is a job as I enjoy every second of it. That said, I normally charge 20$ a half hour, however, I'm open to exceptions and situations that might alter that one way or the other.

Every type! I loving learning more about people through the process of music :)
