About
Two Broadway directing credits: GRACE in 2012 and LINDA VISTA 2019. Jeff-Nominated twice for Best Director in Chicago. Named Best Director by Chicao Magazine 2011. Won NYC Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Director in 2004 and nominated for a Drama Desk Award. I have directed for Steppenwolf, Goodman, Victory Gardens, and at Second City. I lead a physical theater company called Plasticene for seveteen years of critically acclaimed work. I am the Head the MFA Acting program at DePaul University where I teach acting at the undergraduate and graduate level. I have taught acting, physical theater, and improvisation to over 1000 people.
I love to introduce and remind actors of ANY level that the fundamentals of acting: relaxation, impulse, physical connection, vocal release, imagination, saying yes to the givens, deep listening, active personalization, emotional availability and excellent communication are at the very heart of our art. I am skilled at teaching or coaching anyone from beginner to seasoned professional. I have many techniques that can be applied immediately to gain confidence and results. I have been teaching acting since 1995!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I love to teach and coach any level of experience from absolute beginner to advanced professionals. I encourage self-use, intelligence, imaginative detail, and relaxed but active involvement through positive feedback, safety, and effective tools. Immediate results for audition or performance. Methods include ideas from Stanislavski, Hagen, Spolin, improvisation, Shurtleff and physical approaches to acting.
