Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want to facilitate your potential using RHYTHM and drumming. We will spend time to review Goals and set you up for SUCCESS on the level you wish to achieve - from professional touring player; to weekend warrior, prep for school; private lessons to relieve stress and experience something new and FUN!
This time is all about YOU and how you want to spend your time!!!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
my learning has been for more than 40 years of playing, performing and teaching music and communicating. University learning?
Yes! DePaul University here in Chicago and Iowa State (BA in communications), I have played more than 1000 gigs in my life and have taught hundreds of people along their personal paths.
My joy is seeing the spirit of other people grow as they experience drumming as something they know, but want more ways to express inner JOY.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Listening Skills are KEY to life, music and the enjoyment of music! Your homework will consist of LIstening with Intent; learning beats, rudiments, and how to hold a groove - by LISTENING to the great drummers of the past and the present.
You are in charge of your learning process
How did you get started teaching?
I began by being asked, "how do I play triplets?" I can show you! And I became a teacher - that was 4 decades ago and the path has revealed itself to me!
What types of students have you worked with?
professional corporate persons with difficult day jobs and loads of stress; Blue Man Group try-outs; rock band drummers with musical goals; foreign nationals who want a fun drumming expereince while in the USA; first time drummers trying to find their way in the world; people on their path to music and the future of the world.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
As a Rhythm Evngelist; I play with a lot of different people - Rhythm Revoltuion got hired to do a drum circle in downtown Chicago - we showed people they are already drummers!!
Please sit, listening and play!!! It worked - we got more than 400 people involved in 6 different drumming circles
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
What are your goals for drumming? - fun, restoring calm, feeling connected, improved listening skills, technical skills, more beats, more groove, betteer fills, ways to think about practicing, how to cope with this life and keep the head above water. What are YOUR GOALS? this time is for you and your development; I am here to facilitate
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
