I have long been a leader in the Chicago theater community. I can help any beginning actor become active in the community. I can help them be confident in auditioning and comfortable being in front of an audience. I am realistic and will approach all actors with a serious view of outcomes and their future. I am not a dream maker. I am a realist who will inspire the art of acting and the serious idea of focusing on it as a serious endeavor whether an individual is working in community theater or Hollywood.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by seeing what kind of experience they have. I want to know what their expectations are. I want to know that they are serious about acting. My technique is based on the basic ideas of listening as a skill, intentions as a choice, and building a character. The choices that are made and the risks taken as an actor make the difference between getting a part and captivating an audience. This all has to be within the confines of the truth.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My education in terms of acting and directing took place beginning at the University of Illinois in Chicago and Columbia College. I also studied in storefront theaters including Victory Gardens and Wisdom Bridge theaters in the 70s. I studied at Second City with Jo Forsberg, Paul Sills, and David Shepherd.

My fee is $50 an hour for private sessions. You may need focused help and I will give exactly what you need to to get to the next level.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always been a teacher as I can identify the problems and blocks of each individual. As I worked my way through the theater myself, I found myself coaching and directing as I went along. I continued learning and streamlining techniques that I apply myself to my own activity as an actor. I continue to grow as I continue to teach.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with actIt’s at all levels. Beginning actors give me the most satisfaction as I can help guide them on all facets of this art. Sometimes a seasoned actor comes to me with a block and I can help him identify the problem and break through.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I acted at a Red Orchid Theater in their production of Victims of Duty. It was sold out and very well received.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who is serious and will give you the attention you need to be the best actor you can be. An acting teacher should be honest in their assessment of your talent and potential. They should be encouraging but strict so that they will get the most out of you and you can be the best you can be and have the confidence to move forward.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should make sure they are serious about perusing this activity. They should know how serious they are about it. It is possible to do this just for fun and it should be fun but they should know how far they would like to take it. It can be a lot of hard work and emotionally challenging. They should consider how much they are willing to sacrifice for this art.
