Taurista Artists

My name is Kish Jackson and I am the Artistic Director and Choreographer for an organization I created called Taurista Artists. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago where I studied Dance, Musical Theater, Theater, and Choreography. I've been dancing for 30 years and have worked and trained with such dance companies like Ruth Page, Joel Hall, and Deeply Rooted Dance Theater here in Chicago. Taurista Artists is an organization that teaches dance classes but is also committed showcasing theatrical performances that breakdown the boundaries of race, culture, sexuality, and stereotype. The dance classes start with a basic professional warm up that features body movement, stretching, and across the floor exercises. After the warm up we begin to learn the dance piece for the lesson. I teach at the pace my class dictates. One of my goals for Taurista Artists is to perform a showcase with the collection of dance pieces learned during our lessons over a predetermined amount of time. Every student that expresses interest in being a part of this showcase will be welcome to perform in this showcase provided they are able to perform the choreography adequately. These dance pieces that they learn and showcase will creatively comment on the principal issues and events of our time through music and movement. I am striving to work with artists from a variety of different ethnic backgrounds as well as social environments to better round my performance pieces. If students just want to come take a dance class either to learn new skills, hone their skills, or get a good work out in a fun and positive environment that perfectly awesome as well. That is my other goal and wish for Taurista Artists so either way it's a win!
