About
I run a graphic arts and web development company. In doing this, and in my previous years as a full-time musician (18yrs), I have mentored/taught in both disciplines. I have a degree in Percussion and have continued to play, study, teach and invest in my music abilities to bring both fundamental as well as fresh items to the table; how to play and learn to play drums and percussion. I try to keep things pretty casual and tailor lessons for each student; we begin with a couple of books depending on the area of interest and level of ability and then I write specific excercises to hone in on issues that need attention. One thing I want to retain is a level of passion in the study - you need to want to practice and enjoy rhythm for it's own sake. I was and continue to be a player so my direction is one of real-world, how to do it as much as music theory. I have taught lessons for over 30 years and can also bend minds with a spoon ;)
My experience is wide: funk, fusion, rock/pop, classical (orchestral), latin... just alot. If I had to pin a specialty, it would be funky fusion, think Snarky Puppy / Funky Knuckles - can't get/play enough! I gigged for 15+ years in St. Louis in club/jazz bands as well as original bands and continue to play contemporary Christian as well as a "for fun" band playing, you guessed it, funky fusion. I'm an avid music listener/reader and keep up on current threads on Instagram.
I have a full studio in my home in Evanston, IL. I prefer students that know how to read music/rhythm but am willing to take beginners that exhibit talent and passion.
That's about it - happy to help.
